Beekeeping at Capeflori
Learn the Art of the Hive
Theory-based courses and tailored consultations in the Cederberg Mountains — for beginners, hobbyists, and landowners ready to bring bees to their property.
Why learn here
Beekeeping in one of the world's great floral kingdoms
The Cederberg sits within the Cape Floral Kingdom — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the six floral kingdoms of the world. Our courses focus on the Cape honeybee (Apis mellifera capensis), an endemic subspecies uniquely adapted to the fynbos biome and unlike any other bee in the world.
Our courses are classroom and field-based — no live hive work. You'll learn the theory of beekeeping deeply, explore the fynbos vegetation that sustains Cape bees, and leave with a thorough understanding of what it takes to keep bees in this extraordinary landscape.

What's covered
What to expect
Theory first surrounded by fynbos.
No live hive work
Our courses are theory and field-based. You'll learn deeply without the pressure of working with a live colony — ideal for true beginners.
Fynbos vegetation walk
Every course includes time in the field identifying the key fynbos plants that sustain Cape bees — proteas, ericas, buchus, and restios.
The Cape bee in focus
We teach specifically about Apis mellifera capensis — the Cape honeybee endemic to this region — its unique biology, behaviour, and relationship with the fynbos.
Combine with a stay
Course participants are welcome to book accommodation on the farm — the White Farmhouse or the Wood Cottage — and make a full weekend of it.
